Microwave ISM Emission Observed by WMAP
نویسنده
چکیده
We investigate the nature of the diffuse Galactic emission in the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) temperature anisotropy data. Substantial dust-correlated emission is observed at all WMAP frequencies, far exceeding the expected thermal dust emission in the lowest frequency channels (23, 33, 41 GHz). The WMAP team (Bennett et al. ) interpret this emission as dust-correlated synchrotron radiation, attributing the correlation to the natural association of relativistic electrons produced by SNae with massive star formation in dusty clouds, and deriving an upper limit of 5% on the contribution of Draine & Lazarian spinning dust at K-band (23 GHz). We pursue an alternative interpretation that much, perhaps most, of the dust-correlated emission at these frequencies is indeed spinning dust, and explore the spectral dependence on environment by considering a few specific objects as well as the full sky average. Models similar to Draine & Lazarian spinning dust provide a good fit to the full-sky data. The full-sky fit also requires a significant free-free component uncorrelated with Hα, evidently hot (∼ 10K) gas within 30 of the Galactic center. ANOMALOUS MICROWAVE EMISSION FROM THE Hii REGION RCW175
We present evidence for anomalous microwave emission in the RCW175 Hii region. Motivated by 33 GHz 13 resolution data from the Very Small Array (VSA), we observed RCW175 at 31 GHz with the Cosmic Background Imager (CBI) at a resolution of 4. The region consists of two distinct components, G29.0-0.6 and G29.1-0.7, which are detected at high signal-to-noise ratio. The integrated flux density is 5...

We present a full-sky model of polarized Galactic microwave emission based on three years of observations by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) at frequencies from 23 to 94 GHz. The model compares maps of the Stokes Q and U components from each of the 5 WMAP frequency bands in order to separate synchrotron from dust emission, taking into account the spatial and frequency dependence...

We characterize spinning dust emission in the warm ionized medium by comparing templates of Galactic dust and Hα with the 5-year maps from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe. The Hα-correlated microwave emission deviates from the thermal bremsstrahlung (free-free) spectrum expected for ionized gas, exhibiting an additional broad bump peaked at ∼ 40 GHz which provides ∼ 20% of the peak int...

We present direct evidence for anomalous microwave emission in the Perseus molecular cloud, which shows a clear rising spectrum from 11 to 17 GHz in the data of the COSMOSOMAS experiment. By extending the frequency coverage using WMAP maps convolved with the COSMOSOMAS scanning pattern we reveal a peak flux density of 42 ± 4 Jy at 22 GHz integrated over an extended area of 1.65◦ × 1.0◦ centered...
متن کاملThe large - scale anomalous microwave emission revisited by WMAP ⋆
We present a new study of the high latitude galactic contributions to the millimeter sky, based on an analysis of theWMAP data combined with several templates of dust emission (DIRBE/COBE and FIRAS/COBE) and gas tracers (HI and Hα). To study the IR to millimeter properties of the diffuse sky at high galactic latitude, we concentrate on the emission correlated with the HI gas. We compute the emi...
